Pradosha Puja is performed during the twilight hours (1.5 hours before and after sunset) on the Trayodashi (13th day) of each lunar fortnight. This window of time is considered extraordinarily sacred — it is the moment when Lord Shiva performed his cosmic dance (Sandhya Tandava) in the presence of all celestial beings. The Pradosha period is believed to be when Lord Shiva is in his most benevolent mood, granting boons freely to all who worship him. According to the Shiva Purana, worshipping Shiva during Pradosha is equivalent to worshipping all the deities and grants the merit of performing great yagnas (fire rituals). At Sri Aadhi Varahi Temple, the Pradosha ceremony includes special Abhishekam for Sri Samba Sadashiva Murthy and Sri Narmadeshwarar with Rudra chanting, followed by elaborate Alankaram and Deeparadhana. Nandi (Shiva's bull mount) is given special worship as the intermediary who conveys devotees' prayers to Shiva during Pradosha.
Pradosha is one of the most auspicious times to worship Lord Shiva. All sins are absolved, and devotees receive Shiva's direct grace during this sacred twilight.
