About

Sri Maha Rudra Bhairavar is the fearsome and awe-inspiring manifestation of Lord Shiva in his role as the guardian deity (Kshetrapalaka). Bhairava literally means 'the one who destroys fear' — Bhai (fear) + Rava (to destroy). As Maha Rudra Bhairavar, he embodies the supreme intensity of cosmic destruction and protection. Bhairavar is considered the lord of time (Kala Bhairava) and is believed to control the eight directions. He is the protector of temples and sacred spaces. In the Shaiva tradition, worshipping Bhairavar is essential for protection from untimely death, evil spirits, negative energies, and the fear of the unknown. At Sri Aadhi Varahi Temple, Maha Rudra Bhairavar is installed as the divine guardian of the temple complex. He is especially worshipped during Rahu Kala on Sundays and during the Ashtami (eighth day) of each lunar fortnight. Devotees light mustard oil lamps and offer black cloths to invoke his protective grace.

Spiritual Significance

Bhairavar annihilates fear and negative karma. He is the protector of sacred spaces and devotees who walk the spiritual path. His worship grants courage, justice, and freedom from the cycle of time.
